In accordance with current legal requirements, Tropica Aquarium Plants A/S carried out an Energy and Climate Review of the company’s activities and energy consumption in 2026. The Energy and Climate Review was conducted in collaboration with Kemp & Lauritzen and covers our buildings, production and energy supply.
The purpose of the energy and climate audit is to identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption and minimise the company’s carbon footprint. The analysis shows that there remains significant potential for improving energy efficiency and transitioning to more sustainable energy sources.
A long-standing focus on energy optimisation
Sustainability and resource efficiency have been an integral part of Tropica’s work for many years. Among the measures already implemented are a comprehensive switch to LED lighting in the greenhouses and the ongoing optimisation of the heating systems. These efforts have helped to reduce the company’s energy consumption by around 65 per cent since 2010.
In addition, the majority of the water used in production is reused, and the company is actively working towards several of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
Action plan for the coming years
Following the energy and climate audit, Tropica has drawn up action plans for the measures the company wishes to pursue further.
The planned initiatives include, amongst other things:
• Establishment of an energy monitoring system that provides better insight into the company’s energy consumption and enables savings opportunities to be identified quickly.
• Investigating solutions for more energy-efficient heating of the greenhouses using heat pump technology.
• Continued optimisation of technical installations and ventilation systems.
These measures are intended to help reduce energy consumption, operating costs and CO₂ emissions, as well as to support Tropica’s long-term sustainability efforts.
Potential climate improvements
The Energy and Climate Agency assesses that the identified projects collectively offer significant potential for emissions reductions. In particular, the transition of the heating supply from fossil fuels to heat pump solutions is assessed as having the potential to significantly reduce the company’s carbon footprint.
However, it is important to note that the individual projects cannot necessarily be implemented simultaneously, as the completion of one project may alter the conditions for the others. Tropica will therefore prioritise the most relevant and cost-effective measures on an ongoing basis.
Publication of action plans
In accordance with the Executive Order on mandatory energy and climate audits, Tropica publishes its action plans for following up on the energy and climate audit. The action plans describe the energy-saving and climate-improving initiatives that the company plans to continue working on in the coming years.
Tropica will continue to work purposefully to reduce energy consumption, resource use and its environmental impact as a natural part of the company’s development.
